Aloha Kakou,

Our battle to stop forced leasehold conversion and the taking of Hawaiian land is being fought on different fronts. Your support is critical toward defending our Queen and safeguarding the education and services for the children of Hawaii. If we do not win, you can be sure that the taking will not stop and our Ali’i Trusts’ commercial property will be next.

ALI`I TRUSTS AND THE COURT
Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate is in litigation with the Kahala Beach condominium lessees. The December, 2002 condemnation was overturned in court but the lessees are appealing the decision. Queen Lili’uokalani Trust is depending on the community to support their position. (see Trustee Tom Kaulukukui’s Letter)

HONOLULU CITY COUNCIL
Romy Cachola, Chair of the Executive Matters Committee is currently stalling on passing Bill 53. As chairman, he has the power to do this. Bombard Romy and inundate Barbara Marshall with your phone calls, fax and e-mail. Tell them to do the right thing and allow Bill 53 to pass to second reading. Ask your family, friends and supporters to contact the city council too. Download our petition, get more signatures of support and send it in by October 13, 2004.

HONOLULU MAYORS RACE
Today’s newspaper article tells it like it is: Income a Big Factor in How Oahu Votes.  The haves versus the have-nots. Wealthy versus poor. East Honolulu versus Leeward Oahu. Duke Bainum is outspending Mufi Hanneman with his family money. He has the ability to buy the mayor’s race.

Clean government? It is obvious that he will cater to the wealthy. Look at the demographics. Professional doctor? He has not shown any compassion or willingness to hear our outcry to save the lands that benefit our children. Experience? He does not come close to Mufi’s experience with running an efficient government he’s a part time doctor. Fairness? All we want to do is keep the lands left by our Hawaiian monarchy for the benefit of our children. Is it fair to condemn their property so that private individuals can buy it and leave it to their children?
