The Maui News What happened in Hawaii now happening in Iraq In regard to the June 17 letter "Encouragement for assaults is sad," the word ku'e (not the proper spelling; it's missing a couple of kahakos) means to resist. It is sad when one sees the same thing happening to a country that had happened to this one. The only difference is the Iraqi leader was a tyrant and murderer, and the other was our beloved queen who was a fair and loving woman who loved her people. Iraq is being illegally occupied by the United States because of its oil. Hawaii was taken because of her geographical location. You see terrorists when they're actually insurgents. I see warriors. My heart goes out to the American soldiers because they are fighting and dying, not for my freedom, but for a president who misuses his power and lies to his people. Americans have to wake up, your morals and standards are being flushed down the toilet. That is sad. I never asked to be an American and will never consider myself an American. I am a citizen of The Nation of Hawaii, a Hawaiian. Gaby Gouveia |
